A notice from the European Patent Office (EPO) abolishes the 10-day rule, the legal fiction under which the date of receipt of a document from the EPO was automatically deemed to be 10 days from the dispatch of the communication. From November 1, 2023, EPO communications will therefore no longer benefit from the additional 10-day period. The most important consequence for applicants is a shortening of the deadlines for responding to official letters issued by the EPO, as deadlines triggered by such communications will be calculated starting from the date of the communication itself
